WOOLSERY TENNIS CLUB
Dear Member(s)
Well, that was summer, the weather was sometimes good, but sometimes it was bad! Now that the nights are drawing in and there’s a definite chill in the air it must mean that the 2007 tennis season has also come to an end- that was quick or was it just me!
I hope you have enjoyed the season, club nights, league matches, coaching etc and have overall enjoyed and improved your tennis during the last few months.
The tennis nets and posts will be put into the red box in the next couple of weeks for the winter, but you can get them out at any time if you wish to play. I will leave the club balls in there too. You will need to book the court with Anne Burge on 01237 431585 and pick up the key from a keyholder and arrange to pay the hall for court hire.
This year the Club has had 22 adult members and 3 junior members. I`d like to thank you all for your support and welcome any of our new members once again. Club nights have been well attended, my apologies for not coming along in the last few weeks, but hope a few of you still kept going along.
The coaching sessions, two 6 weekly blocks were completed and were very popular, especially with the younger players, hopefully Ian will do this again next year.
Woolsery was really well represented by 3 ladies teams in the North Devon Tennis League this year. Two teams in division 3, Woolsery A, captained by Kate Harding became champions of the division and will be promoted to Division 2 next year. Congratulations to all players. Woolsery B, captained by Alison Moulder were a very respectable third. Woolsery C, captained by Shirley Griils, played in division 4 and gained valuable experience and several points, especially since it was their first year. Well done to all players and I hope you will all play again next year. Woolsery A & B also entered the Pete Stacy Cup and became winners and runners up respectively. Trophies were collected by the players at the annual dinner and dance at the Barnstaple Hotel last weekend.
It would be great if we could get a mens team together for next year, there is no age restriction, so Brian, Kevin, James, Paul, Matt, perhaps you would think about it for next year??? I would need to know in January for me to enter a team in the league. For any further details just contact me or any of the captains.
Our fundraising event this year was held jointly with the Woolsery Hall Committee, a Cider & Pasty Walk including Hole Gardens. A great success again with a beautiful day, lovely weather and food and plenty of money was raised for both parties.
We will be holding an end of year tournament for any paid up members this year, a little later than normal due to both Alison, myself and several members being unable to manage the 15th or 22nd September due to other commitments. We will opt for Saturday 13th October at 2.00pm. If the weather does not look good we will postpone it until the following Saturday 27th. As we have only got 3 junior members this year, rather than doing a separate junior tournament, they are welcome to join in with the adults and the junior trophy will be awarded to the one with the most points.
The Woolsery Tennis Club AGM will be held in November, I will email/send letters/text you to let you know of the date and venue nearer the time. The meeting will include the election of officers, we really do need a new chairperson and any new ideas are most welcome.
I think that’s all for now. If you can’t make the tournament, hopefully I`ll see you next year!
Many thanks
Denise
