DRAMARAMA
(Stage skills for kids)

Dramarama is something new for kids in Woolsery to do. Kids interested in drama, dance or singing should ask their parents to sign them up for a six-week course of instruction at the Village Hall, from January 12th, culminating in the village show on the 23rd - 24th January.

Why?  When we were looking for kids to perform in the panto, a lot of them did not have the necessary skills and there was not really the time to teach them.  Dramarara is expected to fill that gap. Every Saturday morning for six weeks, we will teach you the rudiments of stage craft, acting, easy dance steps and find out if you can sing. Most kids are good at something, even if it is helping out back stage. Look what happened to David Phillips. He started by helping out backstage when he was 10 and now he’s running the show (well not quite). All the kids who show a talent in anything will be encouraged to continue and who knows; at the next concert or pantomime, they could be the star of the show! (Look what happened to Daisy the Cow – her burgers are famous all over North Devon now!)

But we only want children who want to be there. We do not intend to be a cheap baby-sitting service. Any child who does not like what we do can leave at any time. Just let us know so that someone else can take your place.

We also expect you to be well behaved. We intend to run a football style discipline system: one warning, then a yellow card. Two yellows will equal one red and then you’re out!  But we don’t think there will be any red cards.

The application form is at the bottom of this page. Get Mum or Dad to fill it in and look forward to some great Saturday mornings after Easter.

On the other side of this sheet are the familiar names of those who will be teaching you and what you might get up to.  Go on. Give it a try!

You could be the next Noel Edmonds!  Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that ...didn’t mean to upset you… don’t be angry… just sign up.

THE TUTORS

STUART RICKARD (The course organiser) will instruct in stage craft, acting, and voice projection. (Stuart first put his foot on a stage at the age of ten and has been on the stage at least once every year since then – That’s a long time! He has directed the odd panto here and there and taken part in some of them. He says that he has nearly got it right now)

Mrs RICKARD will teach us all to sing – just like on the Cocoa Cola ads, either individually or in a choir. (Margaret taught music at Woolsery School for years and was famous for her school choirs and orchestras)

BARBARA READER will teach dance, movement and make-up. Barbara has done a little bit of acting herself, sung the odd song and danced a bit too.
She says she is getting on a bit but we know she’s only forty-five!

VAL SNAPE will assist Stuart and Barbara and correct them when they go wrong. (Val is the star of many Parkham pantomimes. She also looks very good in tights!)

We may also be able to bring in others to teach special subjects like tap dancing or how to get round Simon Cowell when you get to be on X-Factor.

So, the stage is set, the lights are on, all we need is somebody to teach and we can get going.

COME ON KIDS – WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
