Woolsery Short Mat Bowling Association








The Short Mat Bowling Association was formed in 1988 at the school, shortly after the remodelling programme was completed.
 After the club had grown and two mats were needed the club departed for the hall at Bucks Cross before finally settling at the New Sports and Community hall. The Club has currently about 30 members and new ones are always welcome to join.

The club currently enters three teams in the Winter evening league and two in the afternoon triples and Summer triples and is proud to be the current holders of the Stephens Trophy competed for by over fifty teams as well as the hosts of the Woolsach triples tournament in the Autumn and in the Spring the Albery & Shute trophy finals.

Short Mat Bowling is a natural sport for Village Halls and it is not surprising that the Devon association is the biggest of its kind in the world, boasting almost 110 clubs and over 2500 players.

The myth that it is an old persons sport is inaccurate with Devon members including some barely past their tenth birthday and Devon’s World triples champions and  British singles champion are all under forty.

The County does however have members who play from their wheelchairs, some who are partially sighted and others whose eightieth birthday is but a distant memory. Truly a sport for all!

We meet on Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays in winter and Wednesdays and Thursdays during the Summer. We try to keep Thursdays for club nights when new members are welcome to come along and have a try.

  • Clubs are reminded to send their fixtures dates and players for each team including the reserve players for each team to the result secretary before they play their first game.
  • Clubs with 2 teams in the same division i.e. 3c need to play their games before they play any other clubs.  Not sure do not hesitate to contact me.
  • The score card for the match will be send to the home team shortly after each draw

All score cards showing player’s names in full to be returned to me at the address below within days of completion of the match.

The home and away team are both responsible to arrange fixture date.  Missing the deadline will mean both teams are eliminated.
