Woolsery Show
About The Show
Woolsery Show has been running for over 100 years, and started out as a village challenge as to who had the best horse. The show used to be held in the village around Town Farm, but outgrew the site over 20 years ago. It was held at Thornery farm for many years, but is currently being held at Downland Farm - The Milky Way.
It is run by a committee of volunteers, and profits from the show are given to various charities - this year The Chestnut Appeal.
It has remained a very traditional rural show, and visiting judges often comment on how nice it is to have a real friendly, small and local show.
Livestock are at the heart of the show, with horses, cattle and sheep, plus others such as poultry and goats. Competitions for handicrafts are held, and there are general crafts and local food stalls. A wide range of trade stands, from agricultural, to plants, clothing and a fun fair provide plenty of interest.
This year there will be birds of prey, pony club mounted games, and young farmers "its a knockout", to provide entertainment. A parade of 6 packs of hounds, and the traditional grand parade of livestock, will add to the day, which will finish with a parade of machinery - ancient and modern.
In the evening a clay pigeon shoot will take place, and this was well supported last year. Come along this year, and enjoy a relaxing day out.
