Vicar's Jottings for March 2008. Easter -- a time to start living............
For the past week the weather has been almost balmy and spring like: however, an edge to the wind tells me that it is only the middle of February and still winter really. Much in the natural world thinks otherwise, with the birds and many of the plants behaving as if spring was already here, so it looks like it won't just be Easter that comes early in 2008!
I always delight in the way spring brings fresh colour into our lives-, as our gardens start to come to life after the cold and wet of winter. The weather starts to warm things up and new shoots push through the soil seeking the sunshine. And new life is also the theme of Easter, the greatest festival in the Church's calendar. Easter Day, as the sun rises, we will gather above Hartland quay to celebrate and worship God in a special open-air service. Then in every parish church during the morning we will gather to celebrate as we remember the death of Jesus Christ on the cross on Good Friday and his glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday.
And that's why Easter is always a good opportunity to make a new start: to discover the forgiveness, purpose and joy that following Jesus can bring. Life is so much more than just a survival from day to day; so please do come and celebrate with us this Easter, and start to discover how your life can be lived to the full!
With my best wishes, Andrew Richardson
